Description:

Matthew MacGee was a successful jockey in America before 1911 when he went to ride in France. Here his best wins were on Sardanapale in the Prix du President de la Republique (1914) and Flowershop in the French Oaks (1920). While in France he came over to partner the French trained Durbar II in his winning Derby of 1914. He settled in Chantilly upon retirement and returned to Covington, Kentucky, USA when the Germans overran France in 1940.
