Description:
Son of James Watson, a Yorkshire trainer, John Watson was for forty years the private trainer to Leopold de Rothschild, and a few of his friends. John Watson made winning early season two-year-old races a speciality and took the Brocklesby Stakes at Lincoln six times in seven years. In addition to the three Classic winners he also trained Galloper Light (Grand Prix de Paris) and Radium (winner of the Goodwood, Doncaster and Jockey Club Cups). His son, Geoffrey, trained at Chantilly and had charge of the best middle distance horse in Europe in 1963, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Exbury.
