Leader, Colledge (1883 - 1938)

Trainer (T)

Also Known As:  Coll Leader

Associated Places:  Machell Place, Newmarket,Stanley House, Newmarket

Colledge Leader, the son of Tom Leader Sr, trained for Lord Harewood, Mr J B Leigh and others at Machell Place, Newmarket. In 1933 he became private trainer to Lord Derby at Stanley House. As such he took over the training of Hyperion for his four-year-old career. It was thought that winning races would be a formality, but Hyperion's performance was disappointing. However the public were sympathetic.

Leader's best horses were Cantilever (Jockey Club Stakes and Cambridgeshire Handicap in the same year), and the filly Quashed, who in addition to winning the Oaks, won the Ascot Gold Cup and back to back victories in the Jockey Club Cup.
