Breeder (B),  Owner (O)

Also Known As:  Carrie Red, Mr Manton

Description:

The thrice married Duchess was a formidable lady. The be-all and end-all of her life was racing. No suprise then that she flounced from the church and berated the vicar who prayed for fine weather at harvest time, when her Classic hopeful wanted soft going!

The Duchess's horses raced under the assumed name of Mr Manton. Perhaps the best of them was St Mirin, runner up in the St Leger and third in the Derby.

The Duchess of Montrose's second husband, Stirling Crawfurd, won the 1878 Derby with Sefton. After his death in 1883 she married the 24 year-old Harry Milner.
