Also Known As: Les Hewitt
Description:
Leslie Hewitt was a lightweight jockey from New Zealand. Hewitt rode as a freelance and brought off a major gamble for the Druids Lodge Confederacy when winning the Royal Hunt Cup on Lally at 100/6 in 1907. The following year he was successful in the Portland Handicap at Doncaster on The Welkin and the Cambrdigeshire on Marcovil carrying 1lb overweight and having won the previous race on the card.
In 1912 he won the 1000 Guineas on the future Derby winner Tagalie, but was not in the saddle for the Epsom Classic.
