Trainer (T),  Jockey (J)

Also Known As:  Otto Madden

Otto Madden was Champion Jockey on four occasions between 1898 and 1904. His father rode the famous Kincsem in most of her 54 winning races. Otto Madden was apprenticed first to James Waugh and later to Richard Marsh for whom he won the Derby on Jeddah at 100/1. He was suspected by some of pulling Wool Winder in the 1907 Derby. He retired in 1909 to take up training but resumed in the saddle due to a wartime lack of jockeys, to win the Oaks on Sunny Jane in 1917. Later he bred, owned and trained Chapeau to win the Ebor Handicap.
