Description:
Captain James Machell was one of the shrewdist men on the turf in the 19th century. Although never winning a Classic or owning a Classic horse, he was adviser and manager to many and his name was associated with the training of the likes of Isinglass, Hermit, Harvester, Seabreeze and others. He also owned and had much input into the preparation of three Grand National winners.
