Description:
Cyllene turned out to be well up to Classic standard but was never entered for these races; he was a late May foal and had been small and backward. However, he proceeded to win 9 of his 11 starts against opposition of the highest class.
Cyllene was an exquisite horse with temperament to match. At stud he sired 4 Epsom Derby winners - Cicero, Minoru, Lemberg and Tagalie, as well as Polymelus, five times champion sire. Cyllene himself was champion sire in 1909 and 1910. He was exported to Argentina before the full extent of his influence was known and was equally successful in that country. |
