Description:
Winner of five races from 2 to 4 years, including the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot and the July Cup, Sir Cosmo was rated behind only the Derby and St Leger winner Trigo as a three-year-old. Well bought as a yearling for only 100 guineas, he was by The Boss, a sprinting sire of only moderate popularity, out of Ayn Hali, a good Irish mare.
His owner, Sir Richard Garton, set Sir Cosmo up at stud in Newmarket and the horse exceeded expectations as a sire, establishing a bloodline of crack sprinters including Bellacose (winner of the July Cup and two Nunthorpe Stakes), Panorama (unbeaten in 7 starts as a 2-y-o including the Coventry and Champagne Stakes), Como (also a Nunthorpe winner), Sugar Palm (a great public favourite, successful in 21 races) and Khosro and Good Morning (both Irish Classic winners).
Sir Cosmo was also a good sire of broodmares, his daughters producing the likes of American champion Round Table, and the English 2000 Guineas winner Rockavon. |
