Dates & jockeys of important wins:
Description:
Winner of six races in England and Ireland at two and three years, Trigo was a successful juvenile in Ireland under Jack Rogers before being sent across the water to Richard Dawson at Whatcomb to join his year older brother Athford. The pair were the only two animals that owner William Barnett had in training in 1929. Trigo really flopped in the 2000 Guineas for no apparent reason, and was sent off as the stable's second string at 33/1 for the Derby. But he was always going well and, on a rain-swept day, he came home 1 1/2 lengths clear. He won his next start, the St Leger, with the stable jockey Michael Beary up and scraped home by inches in the Irish St Leger a week later. At the end of 1929 Trigo was retired to stud where he had a very ordinary career. |
