Lynham, Barrington (1876 - )

Jockey (J)

Also Known As:  Barry

Description:

The son of the Berkshire trainer Fred Lynham, Barry Lynham was apprenticed to, and Assistant to, his father and held a full jockey's licence from 1902 to 1912. He won the 1000 Guineas twice and finished runner-up in the Derby of 1911 on Steadfast, whose trainer, George Lambton, considered him the ideal jockey for this rather highly strung colt.

Barry Lynham was indeed a fine horseman with good hands. Other big races that fell his way included the Gimcrack Stakes for the future Lord Wavertree and the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Important successes:

1000 Guineas
Witch Elm   1907   (J)
Winkipop   1910   (J)
