Description:
A little chesnut horse, all quality, Cicero was trained at Exning, near Newmarket. He won 8 races from two to four years, including the Coventry Stakes, Ascot as a juvenile and the Newmarket Stakes and Derby, starting favourite, at three. He was beaten in the Eclipse Stakes and developed leg trouble, but was able to beat a single opponent at Newmarket the following season. After finishing nowhere in the Ascot Gold Cup, his trainer having had grave reservations about running him, Cicero was retired to his owner's stud at Mentmore. The best horse he sired was Friar Marcus.
In 1923 Cicero became cast in his box, ruptured himself and had to be shot. |
