Description:

Brigadier-General 'Ned' Baird, a charming and kindly man, first registered his colours for flat racing in 1887, while the very next year his horse Playfair was successful in the Grand National. His Wool Winder was an easy St Leger winner in 1907 and was unfortunate not to win the Derby as well. Ned Baird was Captain of his regimental polo team, a member of the Jockey Club for 62 years, and a Steward between 1904 and 1906.
