Description:
Singapore was too backward to run as a two-year-old, but at three he improved throughout the year, winning just once at Sandown, but losing nothing in defeat conceeding 10lbs to Rameses The Second at Goodwood. With Gordon Richards in the saddle he started the 4/1 joint favourite for the St Leger. Singapore won very easily, and the following season he was the unlucky runner-up in the Ascot Gold Cup, the winner having bored into him in the last furlong. He ended the season by winning the Jockey Club Stakes but broke down in his effort and was retired to stud. Before his export to Brazil in 1943 he sired Chulmlegh for his owner and this colt was also winner of the St Leger. |
