Description:
Sansovino was a big strong colt with plenty of staying power and he won the Derby as a favourite should, coming away six lengths clear of the rest of the field who were floundering in a sea of mud, for it had been raining for days. In all, Sansovino (a son of that remarkable broodmare Gondolette) won six races including the Gimcrack Stakes, the Derby and the Prince of Wales's Stakes. He was not a great success at stud, but got the St Leger winner Sandwich and Sansonnet, dam of Tudor Minstrel. |
