Dates & jockeys of important wins:

St Leger
1924  Bernard Carslake

Description:

Salmon Trout was purchased as a yearling for 3000 guineas on behalf of the Aga Khan. He won five races including the Dewhurst Stakes and the St Leger in which there were some wild rumours suggesting he could not succeed, with the bookmakers laying him to lose a fortune. However, the horse produced a brilliant turn of foot and won decisively.

At stud Salmon Trout was not a wild success. His best progeny were King Salmon (runner up to Hyperion in the Derby and winner of the Eclipse Stakes and Coronation Cup) and Salmon Leap, also winner of the Coronation Cup.
