Description:

A home-bred filly by Sir Hugo Cuncliffe-Owen's Derby winner Felstead, Rockfel's early racing career gave no indication that she should emerge as a dual Classic winner the following season. The immature and lanky filly finished unplaced in selling company but ended the season winning a maiden plate at York. As a three-year-old she won the Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom, took the 1000 Guineas as an 8/1 chance and started favourite for the Oaks, which she won by 4 lengths in a faster time that that year's Derby winner. Later that year she won twice more including the Champion Stakes.

As a four-year-old Rockfel won at Newmarket and was being aimed at the Ascot Gold Cup before training difficulties forced her retirement to stud. She died in 1941 from a twisted gut leaving just one foal, Rockefella (a good one) behind her.
