Description:

Lord Hastings inherited his title aged 19 and came into racing at 21, under the guidance of Captain Machell, the manager for several rich and aristocratic owners. Melton was Lord Hastings' only Classic winner. Other good horses to run in his colours included Master Kildare (City and Suburban Handicap and himself sire of Melton) and Hackthorpe (King's Stand Stakes and Portland Handicap).

Lord Hastings was fond of many sports, including hunting, yachting, cricket and shooting.
