Dates & jockeys of important wins:
Description:
Melton, a strong quality little colt, was a top two-year-old, but he owed his victory in the Derby to the strong riding of Frederick Archer who forced him over the line inches from Frederic Webb on the 2000 Guineas winner Paradox. Melton won the St Leger with no struggle at all, in a canter. Kept in training at four, he was unplaced in several important races, but won three small contests and the Liverpool Autumn Cup.
After a short time at stud Melton was sold to the Italian Government and was later repatriated to England to stand at John Musker's stud at Thetford. Melton was runner-up in the broodmare sire list of 1913. |
