Description:

The 5th Earl succeeded to his title in 1890 and was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge. His is best remembered for his association with Howard Carter who unearthed the treasures of Tutankhamun in Egypt.

In the world of horseracing, the Earl first registered his colours in 1896 and became a Member of the Jockey Club in 1919. He was also a founder member of the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association. The best horses to run for him included Robert le Diable (Doncaster Cup) and Mauvezin (Stewards' Cup).

He died in Cairo from a mosquito bite which gave him septic poisoning.
