5th Earl of Carnarvon

Description:

Malva, a small but very correct filly, ran 18 times at 2 and 3 years and won three races, but nothing noteworthy. On the death of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon, her breeder, the filly passed into the ownership of his widow, who gave her as a present to the 6th Earl. And what a grand broodmare she was. In addition to the Derby winner Blenheim, her 11 live foals included King Salmon (Eclipse Stakes and Coronation Cup and runner-up in the 2000 Guineas and Derby) and His Grace (dead-heated for the Coronation Cup).
