Derby
1894  John Watts

Description:

Winner of seven races at two and three years, Ladas came within three quarters of a length of winning the Triple Crown, but was beaten in the St Leger by the filly Throstle, a 50/1 chance with defective eyesight. However, Ladas, a handsome colt with near faultless conformation did not have the temperament to match his looks. He took to pulling hard and did not win again after the Derby. At stud he enjoyed limited success.
