Cunliffe-Owen, Hugo (Sir) (1870 - 1947)

Breeder (B),  Owner (O)

Associated Places:  Sunningdale Park, Sunningdale, Berks

Description:

Sir Hugo Cunliffe-Owen had many business interests and was the Chairman of the British-American Tobacco Company. He was appointed Controller of Eastern Propaganda, Ministry of Information, in 1918.

Sir Hugo spent considerable money on his racing empire and liked to have a good bet, but he did not want any short prices, so he must have been well pleased when Felstead won the Derby at 33/1. His other Classic success was with Rockfel (Oaks and 1000 Guineas) - he had bred both these horses himself.
