1897  Hardwicke Stakes   Walter Bradford

Description:

The 'over at the knee' Bay Ronald was in effect a high-class handicapper, but he took his place in Persimmon's Derby field and ran with credit. All told he won five times, including the City and Suburban Handicap at Epsom and the Hardwicke Stakes at Ascot. No way regarded as 'all the rage' as a stallion, he nevertheless sired horses of the calibre of Bayardo and Dark Ronald.
