Description:

Great things were expected from this exceptionally good-looking colt after he had won the Dewhurst Stakes as a two-year-old, but at three he was a dire disappointment. Consolation did come in the Derby for owner, trainer and jockey with the win of Mahmoud, but all that Bala Hissar achieved was a small win at Haydock Park.

Bala Hissar stood for a few seasons at the Meddler Stud at a fee of 48 sovereigns and half that amount later. He got a few winners before being sent to Brazil in 1942.
