Breeder (B),  Owner (O)

Description:

Clarissa Sofer Whitburn, wife of Lt Col Charles William Sofer Whitburn, bred the 2000 Guineas winner Adam's Apple, which ran in the colours of her husband. However, most of the good horses ran under her name and they included Chivalrous, bought by Mrs Whitburn for 500 guineas and successful in two Chester Cups, Drake (Middle Park Stakes), D'Orsay (third inb the 2000 Guineas) and Jennie Deans (a good two-year-old filly).

Mrs Sofer Whitburn also took a keen interest in coursing and two of her greyhounds won its most prestigious event, The Waterloo Cup.
