Manning, George ( - 1863)
|
|
Trainer (T)
Associated Places: Cannons Heath, nr Kingsclere
Description:
A former head lad, George Manning became private trainer to Sir Joseph Hawley in 1856, and sent out Derby winners for him two years running. As Sir Joseph's trainer, he was required merely to supervise and keep the horse well, since Sir Joseph organised all entries, gallops and trials himself, sometimes not even telling his trainer the weights to be carried.
After George Manning''s death in 1863 the horses went to John Porter.
