Low, George ( - )

Breeder (B),  Owner (O)

Description:

Scottish born George Low rented a farm in Co Kildare. He bred the dam of Barcaldine and Barcaldine himself; the latter positively slaughtered other two year olds in a stiff trial. George Low could not believe the result and wanted the test repeated but was talked out of it. As a three year old Barcaldine was subjected to a very severe race just days before his intended target of the Baldoyle Derby - against the wishes of his trainer. The reason - his owner wished to have the prize money with which to bet on the latter race.

George Low wished to race Barcaldine in England, but began to play cat and mouse with the officials by conducting a ficticious sale of the horse. He was bought before the stewards who warned him off, and Barcaldine was sold to Robert Peck.
