Lowry, Joseph (1839 - 1913)

Description:

Joseph Lowry was a prominent owner and breeder in Ireland where he was also a senior partner in a Navan auctioneering firm. He owned and bred two Irish Derby winners in Killeagh and Bachelor's Double, a close relation to Bachelor's Button. At his stud he stood the sire Tredennis, a cheap buy who started his stallion duties at a fee of £5. This rose to £200 and at the time of his death he had produced the winners of 480 races. Joseph Lowry's son Albert was a major force in the breeding operation.
