Description:

After riding and training in Scotland, James Ryan came to Newmarket to train for his patron Joseph Houldsworth at Green Lodge, and so was responsible for Springfield. He also had three Classic wins for Douglas Baird. James Ryan, who lost his only son in a typhoid epidemic in Newmarket, was a popular man in the town, a keen golfer and Master of the Newmarket Drag Hunt. He married Rosa, the sister of W A Jarvis.
