Reiff, John ( - )

Jockey (J)

Also Known As:  Knickerbocker Reiff; Johnny Reiff

Associated Places:  Red House Stables, Newmarket

Description:

Reiff looked like an angel and was kissed by Society ladies, but he was fully capable of pulling a horse to suit the American gamblers who employed him. A brilliant lightweight jockey (he weighed just over 5st), he came to England from America with his older brother Lester and both left for France in 1901 after Lester was warned off; Johnny returned to ride in big races and subsequently won two Derbys. He would have won a third had Craganour not been disqualified.

Important successes:

2000 Guineas
Louvois   1913   (J)
Derby
Orby   1907   (J)
Tagalie   1912   (J)
