Description:

William Sears was a director of shoe and boot companies including Freeman, Hardy and Willis Ltd. He secured the Phalaris mare Bridge of Alan in 1932 for 1,700 guineas, bought a spare nomination to Solario, and the colt Mid-day Sun was the result. As an owner he won the 1929 Ayr Gold Cup with Tommy Atkins.
