Description:
Ernie Piggott, whose father farmed, hunted and point-to-pointed, rode in France and Belgium and then settled in England after his win in the 1912 Grand National. He was Champion National Hunt Jockey three times. His first National win with Poethlyn was at Gatwick, the second at Liverpool, after which he retired from the saddle and took up training, with modest success.
Ernest Piggott was a brother of the trainer Charles Piggott. Ernest's wife was a sister of Herbert Mornington Cannon and Kempton Cannon and their son Keith became a jockey and trainer - and father of Lester Piggott.
