Perryman, Richard (1903 - 1976)

Trainer (T),  Jockey (J)

Also Known As:  Dick Perryman

Associated Places:  Beaufort House, Newmarket

Description:

One of the best jockeys of his era, Dick Perryman's only Classic successes as a rider were in the 1000 Guineas, but he had a great many big race wins to his credit. He rode for 1st Baron Glanely, Anthony de Rothschild and Lord Derby.

Troubled by his weight in the aftermath of a car accident he turned to training at Beaufort House, Newmarket, and at first at least he recorded conspicuous success with his small string. His name will always be associated with that fine grey Derby and St Leger winner Airborne. In later years he concentrated on his Aislabie Stud at Stetchworth, near Newmarket.
