Dawson, Michael (1867 - 1926)

Breeder (B),  Trainer (T),  Jockey (J)

Associated Places:  Rathbride Manor Stables, Curragh, Ireland

Description:

Michael Dawson, son of a hackney coachman, was apprenticed as a jockey to Pat Connolly, a family friend. As a jockey he rode three winners of the Irish Derby; as a trainer, he sent out six. Small and secretive, Michael Dawson headed the Irish trainers' list ten times. He preferred the type of owner who would give their horses time. As a breeder he bred Hornet's Beauty, who won 31 races.
