Description:

Sir William Cooke, who succeeded to the title in 1894, bred hunters, polo ponies, hounds, chickens, racehorses and orchids. On the racehorse front he won the 2000 Guineas with Happy Knight, purchased the smasher Hornet's Beauty and won 28 races with him, was underbidder for The Tetrarch, and tried to buy Gainsborough as a yearling.
