Varipati, Marcel ( - )

Breeder (B),  Owner (O)

Associated Places:  Nunnery Stud, Thetford, Norfolk

Description:

Marcel Varipati was a Greek corn merchant who had made a fortune and was intent on setting up a stud in Thetford to breed horses to win in his wife's colours. Madame Varipati, who had once been a model in Paris, started having winners, but was killed in a motoring accident in 1920. Her husband continued the stud in his wife's memory and retained the occasional horse to run in his name. The best animal he bred was that honest lop-eared handicapper Winalot.
