Description:
Frank Barling, an ex-vet and steeplechase trainer, became private trainer to the shipping magnate Lord Glanely (1st Baron Glanely) at Falmouth House, Newmarket in 1919. That year the owner and trainer enjoyed a spectacular season, winning the Derby and having seven wins at Royal Ascot. Ill health forced him into retirement shortly afterwards but he later ran a public stable at Primrose Cottage in Newmarket, which he handed to his son Geoffrey in 1932.
