Griggs, Walter (1889 - 1933)

Description:

The son of a butcher and small time bookmaker, Walter Griggs was apprenticed along with his brother William Griggs to the Newmarket trainer Robert Sherwood Jnr. Later he was associated for many years with the Wantage stable of Charles Morton. As a trainer at Exeter House, Newmarket he was a master at having fit horses for the early part of the season.

Frederick Rickaby and William Rickaby were nephews of Walter Griggs and were both apprenticed to him.
