Trainer (T)
Associated Places: Burton on Trent,Heath House Stable, Newmarket,Warren House Stable, Newmarket
Description:
Before becoming a trainer, George Dawson was a brewer at Burton on Trent. However he had good racing credentials - his father John Dawson Snr was a trainer and he was the nephew of Mathew Dawson whose Heath House stable he took over on the latter's retirement. He acted as private trainer to a consortium of owners including the 6th Duke of Portland for whom he won ten Classics. He was champion trainer in 1888. The consortium dissolved when the lease expired and two years later George Dawson took over the Warren House Stable when his father retired from there.
