Description:

Winkfield's Pride was a very handsome, medium-sized chesnut. Both the sire and dam were bought by his owner/breeder John C Sullivan. His dam, a roarer who did not race, bred other winners including Winkfield's Fortune, second in the Irish Derby.

Winkfield's Pride was a 'handicap certainty' when he won the Cambridgeshire. He also took the Prix du Conseil Municipal in Paris at a canter. He stood as a sire in France and was at first very successful. Both his sons Quo Vadis and Finasseur won the Grand Prix de Paris and Finasseur also won the French Derby.
