Dates & jockeys of important wins:

1000 Guineas
1912  Leslie Hewitt
Derby
1912  John Reiff

Description:

It is rare for a grey to win the Derby and rare for a filly to do so. Tagalie was both. Bred by her owner, Walter Raphael, and trained privately for him by Dawson Waugh (Mathew Waugh), who gave the little filly all the time she needed, Tagalie suprised everyone by her pillar to post victory in the 1000 Guineas.

Although the jockey Leslie Hewitt had a mount in the Derby, it was not Tagalie, who was ridden instead by another lightweight, John Reiff. Once again the filly made all. A change of jockey again for the Oaks led to a change of tactics, with the result that Tagalie was down the field. In fact she never reproduced her Derby form or was placed again.
