Dates & jockeys of important wins:

Grand National
1908  Henry Bletsoe

Description:

Rubio was bred at the Rancho del Paso Stud in California, USA., and came to Britain as a yearling. He was a grand stamp of a horse who had won in the show ring in his younger days. He had broken down as a five year old, and, in order to strengthen his legs, was put to pulling a hotel bus in Towcester. By the end of 1906 he was back in training, and in 1908, ridden by Henry Bletsoe, son of his former trainer Bernard Bletsoe, he beat his better fancied stable companion Mattie McGregor by 10 lengths in the Grand National. He broke down in the 1909 National and retired.
