Description:
China Cock was a real Liverpool specialist - not jumping, but in the Spring, Summer and Autumn Cup handicaps, important flat races in their day. China Cock won four of them, and on the last occasion the crowd took him to their hearts, cheering him all the way. This was the horse that 'made' the Champion Irish jockey, Morny Wing, who in his lifetime kept a portrait of the colt on prominent display.
At stud, China Cock's best offspring was Cockpit, winner of the Royal Hunt Cup. He was sent to Germany in 1925 and died in about 1928. |
