Dates & jockeys of important wins:

Derby
1858  John Wells

Description:

The nearly black Beadsman was the easy winner of the 1858 Derby, although a fortnight before the race the trainer thought his stable companion was going better, and the stable jockey was racking his brains over which one to choose. The colt had already won two races and dead-heated for another at Newmarket that season, and after the Derby he was successful in a stakes at Stockbridge before being retired to stud in Shropshire. He sired a Derby winner, Blue Gown, and a St Leger winner, Pero Gomez, both bred and owned by Sir Joseph, before his death in 1872.
