1883  Northumberland Plate   Frederick Archer

Description:

Barcaldine was a wonderful animal who could carry any amount of weight, so perfect was his constitution. Unbeaten in 12 races, 8 in Ireland including that country's premier juvenile contests, and 4 times for Robert Peck who saw his even greater potential although he had arrived at the yard a weakling.

Barcaldine's last race, before his legs gave out, was the Northumberland Plate, lumping 9st 10lbs, which he won in a hack canter. Although never the Champion sire, he was runner-up and third on the list in 1895 and 189. He begat Derby and Oaks winners in Sir Visto and Mimi.
